Malaysia index of industrial production increased 4.6 percent in May on a year-on-year term, a release from Department of Statistics showed.
Malaysia index of industrial production gained due to strong showing in manufacturing index that expanded 7.3 percent. The growth came on the back of a 6.7 percent expansion in the preceding month.
Similarly, electricity index advanced 2.5 percent in the same period reversing the 1.5 percent drop witnessed in the preceding month.
Other notable sectors that witnessed an increase were electrical and electronics products by 11.6 percent, food, beverages and tobacco by 12.9 percent, and petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products by 3.1 percent.
However, the mining index witnessed a contraction of 2.3 percent in May due to 5.4 percent drop in crude oil index. The same sector recorded a fall of 2.0 percent in the preceding month. However, natural gas index expanded 1.5 percent in May.
